It is that time of the year where we again face challenges with weather conditions over the winter period on the North Sea. DFDS would like to take this opportunity to respectfully remind clients of some important requirements for the safe transport of freight units, whilst at sea.
To assist in preventing storm damage at sea, DFDS asks that you review your loading and securing routines to ensure that cargoes are stowed and secured appropriate for sea transport. From Monday 25th September, DFDS will be arranging for checks to be made on trailers and any unit which if found to be insufficiently secured will not be considered for shipment and placed on hold pending further attention.
DFDS also remind that all freight units should be fitted with sufficient/suitable lashing points to allow equipment to be adequately secured during the voyage. These requirements are in accordance with existing regulations and codes of practice, as directed by the International Maritime Organisation and Marine Coastguard Agency. Such lashing points should be clearly visible and identifiable.
